Seven Ways I Use Supplements to Manage My Chronic Pain and Fatigue

Updated: Nov 10, 2023

Dealing with chronic pain and fatigue is a daily struggle for those with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS). EDS is a genetic connective tissue disorder that affects the joints, skin, and blood vessels, leading to chronic pain, fatigue, and other debilitating symptoms. I’ve had EDS for as long as I can remember, and over the years, I’ve tried everything under the sun to manage my symptoms. Recently, I’ve found some success in using various supplements to help me manage my pain and fatigue. In this post, I’ll share seven ways I use supplements to manage my chronic pain and fatigue.

Magnesium: Magnesium is a mineral that plays an important role in over 300 biochemical reactions in the body, including muscle and nerve function. I take magnesium supplements to help with muscle spasms, which are a common symptom of EDS. Magnesium also helps me sleep better, which is important for managing fatigue.

Omega-3s: Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fats that are important for brain function and inflammation. I take omega-3 supplements to help with joint pain and inflammation, which are common symptoms of EDS.

Vitamin D: Vitamin D is essential for bone health, and many people with EDS have weak bones. I take vitamin D supplements to help keep my bones strong and prevent fractures.

Turmeric and Resveratrol: Turmeric is a spice that contains curcumin, a compound that has powerful anti-inflammatory effects. I take turmeric supplements to help with joint pain and inflammation.

Coenzyme Q10: Coenzyme Q10 is a compound that plays a role in energy production in cells. I take Coenzyme Q10 supplements to help with fatigue.

B-Complex Vitamins: B-complex vitamins are a group of vitamins that play a role in energy production and nerve function. I take B-complex vitamins to help with fatigue and brain fog.

Probiotics: Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your digestive system. I take probiotic supplements to help with digestive issues, which are common in people with EDS.

Living with EDS is challenging, but I’ve found some relief in using supplements to manage my symptoms. While these supplements may not work for everyone with EDS, I’ve found them to be helpful in managing my chronic pain and fatigue. As always, it’s important to talk to your doctor before starting any new supplements to make sure they won’t interfere with any other medications you’re taking. By taking a holistic approach to managing my symptoms, I’ve been able to improve my quality of life and feel more in control of my health.
